Heineken - 8L BLADE Keg
Delicious, warming and truly festive, mulled beer is the perfect cold-weather treat when the days get shorter and the temperature drops. If you’re a true beer fan, mulled wine and punch are great… but sometimes you just want something a little more beery.
That’s where this mulled beer recipe comes in.
Mulled beer is the beer version of mulled wine and punch. In the cold season, warm drinks are simply part of it. As a beer fan, you don't want to do without your favourite drink even in the cold months. For this reason, we have a mulled beer recipe here.
Now it's time to get down to business!
Spices: any that you like! We recommend 6 cloves, 2 star anise, 2 cardamom pods, 2 cinnamon sticks and a bit of vanilla.
Step 1: First, use a sharp knife to chop up the cinnamon sticks and star anise. Then put them in a tea infuser along with the cloves and cardamom pods.
Step 2: Pour the beer into a large pot and hang the tea infuser. Heat it carefully to about 60°C, but do not bring it to a boil.
Step 3: Now add the brown sugar and honey. Then turn off the stove and let the beer and spices steep for about half an hour.
Step 4: Now remove the spices from the pot. Then pour in the lemon juice, rum and juice (cherry, elder or orange depending on your preference) and stir well.
Step 5: If the mulled beer is to be drunk straight away, heat it up again to 60 degrees beforehand. If you want to keep it for later, let it cool down first and then fill it into bottles.
Never boil the beer — it will drive off alcohol and bitterness
Dark beers work best: bock, stout or black beer
Cherry juice pairs beautifully with malt and spice
Adjust sweetness and spice to your own taste
Mulled beer is festive, comforting and surprisingly versatile. Whether you’re making a classic mulled ale, a mulled cherry beer, or experimenting with a stout-based version, it’s a brilliant way to enjoy beer throughout the winter months.
We wish you every success with this mulled beer recipe. Cheers!
